Two new cameras unveiled by Sony

Monday, September 11, 2006

Recently Sony officially announced two cameras whose details leaked over the Internet in the past few weeks: the DSC-N2 and the DSC-T50. Both will be available in mid October but starting from September 12th it will possible to pre-order them on the SonyStyle website. Their price is set respectively to $450 (the DSC-N2) and $500 (DSC-T50).

The DSC-N2 is clearly the evolution of the N1 cameras because they share a lot of features and the latest model improves the main shortcomings of the predecessor.

The newly announced camera has a 3-inch touchscreen LCD on its back, a Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar 3x optical zoom lens and a 10.1 megapixel resolution. Compared to the previous version the DSC-N2 also has a higher sensitivity (ISO 1600) so images will be great even in low-light situation or when shooting moving subjects.

One if its interesting features is the photo album function. When you do a picture the DSC-N2 takes two versions of it: one at full-resolution and the other a smaller image obtained from the first.

The utility is that the camera moves the latter in a separate archive where all the small images are stored and that lets you organize your photo album. The camera has 25MB of internal memory so there is plenty of space for your pictures.

The DSC-T50 is also an important update to the T30 and its main improvements are the 56MB internal memory and an ISO 1000 sensitivity. This model has also a 3-inch touchscreen LCD and a 3x optical zoom while it has a lesser resolution (“only” 7.2 megapixel).

If you want to expand the available amount of money both cameras only accept Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Pro cards. It is included instead the stylus necessary to use the touchscreen if you do not want to operate the functions with your fingertip.

Lastly both the DSC-N2 and the DSC-T50 use Sony’s InfoLitium batteries to increase the number of pictures that you can take: 300 for the DSC-N2 and 400 for the DSC-T50.
