D-Link DHP-301 | Use power lines to networkMonday, November 13, 2006 For areas not reached by broadband because of physical problems a lot of researchers suggested another means of transport to deliver the Internet: power lines. While this solution was used only in a limited number of real networks and turned down by some providers, it still is handy for other uses. The main advantage is that almost every house has power lines and if you have a personal computer you already them at your disposal. So one use can be the combination of multiple computers to create a home network that uses the power lines to exchange data. This is made possible by the D-Link DHP-301 gadget. It is a network kit that enables its owner to use the power line to create a (relatively) small network of computers. Using the D-Link DHP-301 you do not have to worry about cables anymore. In fact you just have to plug the adapters in the power outlet and then attach the router into the adapter. This is also useful for small offices or big houses where deploying cables would be problematic. Or in environment where it is not possible to use a wireless connection. Obviously this technology is not limited to computer. The D-Link DHP-301 can also be used to connect to a network, for example, game consoles or HD media players to bring the fun wherever there is a power outlet. The D-Link DHP-301 has a maximum throughput rate of 200Mbps and is smart enough to optimize the connection when a continuous high quality stream is necessary (gaming, video playback or VOIP). In addition to this feature the D-Link DHP-301 also has the possibility to use the 3DES encryption system to protect sensible data on your network. The D-Link DHP-301 starter kit has a suggested retail price of $219.99.
