Pepper Pad 3 | A powerful Handhel Web Computer

Thursday, October 19, 2006

Have you ever wanted something more powerful than PDA but less bulky than a notebook? If the answer is yes then let me introduce the Pepper Pad 3. This handheld is a device mainly designed to browse on the Internet but has also other uses. For example it can be used for other online activities like e-mail or IM and can also play audio or video files.

Compared to the other versions of this gadget the Pepper Pad 3 comes with enhancements both in external look and in the software area. It has a 7” touchscreen LCD, is less than 0.9” inch thick and weighs only 2 lbs. It has also been designed to be rugged and is splash resistant.

On the two sides of the LCD the Pepper Pad 3 has a QWERTY keyboard, a scroll wheel and a navigation pad. On the front side the gadget also features a camera and stereo speakers.

The Pepper Pad can also communicate with other devices using the USB port, Bluetooth 2.0 or a Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connection. Lastly the gadget also has dual IR emitters and receiver. The latter is useful to control wirelessly several devices like a PC, TVs and stereos.

As for the software side one of the main features is the Linux 2.6 OS that is used to host all the applications. This allows the user to use all the open source apps that are widely available on the Internet.

Besides if you are willing to expand the Pepper Pad 3 features you can write your own application thanks to the included Software Development Kit. And considering that the gadget has a 20GB drive and 256MB of DDR SDRAM there will be virtually no limit to what you can do.

The Pepper Pad 3 can already be found on several Internet stores and for international orders you can also use the Pepper online store. Its price is set to slightly more than $800.
