Palm unveils its latest smartphone: Palm Treo 750vWednesday, September 13, 2006 Palm has officially announced the latest entry in their Treo smartphone series: the Palm Treo 750v. Initially it will be available only to Vodafone customers in Europe (essentially in all the occidental countries) but there is no doubt that later it will be distributed in other areas too. Allegedly the smartphone will be available at first in Europe because this is a strategic market for a company like Palm that wants to reach more customers in more regions. This new smartphone runs a Windows Mobile 5.2 Pocket PC OS and it is the first model that runs the Microsoft OS to be available outside the US. The Palm Treo 750v comes with a Samsung 300 MHz processor and 128 MB of nonvolatile flash memory (60MB are available for storage). Besides if you need more space you can always expand the smartphone because it also has a miniSD card slot. Externally the main difference with its predecessor is the lack of a visible antenna and this certainly improves the durability and the look of the Palm Treo 750v. Speaking of the antenna this quad band gadget supports the GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS networks. The Lithium-ion battery guarantees a talk time of 4.5 hours for the GSM and 2.5 hours for the UMTS. Above the alphanumeric keyboard the smartphone sports a 65k colors, 240-by-240-pixel touchscreen. The display is not big like other Palm smartphones but it is enough to appreciate the images and the videos captured with the 1.3 megapixel, 2x digital zoom camera. The Palm Treo 750v lastly support Bluetooth 1.2 and the A2DP profile makes it easy to use wireless stereo headsets. As for software features the smartphone comes with the Microsoft Messaging and Security Feature Pack that further enhances functions like browsing, e-mailing and messaging. Besides the pack is especially useful for business uses of the smartphone since it makes it possible to use the Direct Push Technology to receive instantly e-mails. The smartphone also uses a persistent file system to prevent data losses following batteries fails.
